FRANCIS

The common Francis turbine is a middle ground turbine, operating between 20m and 300m of head and 150 Kilo Watts and 22 Mega Watts. This covers the range of heads not covered between the Kaplan and Pelton. With its reduced hydraulic losses the Francis design is highly efficient.

HOW IT WORKS

Francis turbines are reaction turbines. Water travels around the turbine in a circular motion it then enters the turbine runners radially leaving axially. This is a conversion of pressure energy to kinetic energy.

VARIATIONS

We offer three variations of the Francis turbine:

  • Open Flume for low head sites

  • An economic Concentric Cased for medium head sites

  • Spiral Cased for high head sites
